Majority against cannabis legalization

The Roy Morgan Research poll of 5357 Australians conducted in December 2001 and released in January 2002 showed -

60% of Australians believe cannabis should remain illegal.

The 60% is a 2% increase in the number of Australians that want to keep cannabis illegal compared to the previous poll.

A declining number of Australians (31%) believe cannabis should be made legal.

75% of National Party voters want cannabis to remain illegal.

69% of Liberal Party voters want cannabis to remain illegal.

57% of ALP voters want cannabis to remain illegal.

Clearly, more Australians understand that cannabis is a dangerous drug and legalization will lead to more use and more medical, legal, criminal and social problems for our community.
